In a bold move towards a greener future, Volvo Car Denmark is set to unveil its revamped model program (MY25), signaling a significant leap in the adoption of electric vehicles among the Danish customers. The strategic update aims to increase the variety of fully electric options and make them more economically accessible to a broader audience.

Volvo Cars' global strategy ambitiously charts a course to transform into a fully electric car manufacturer by 2030. However, in Denmark, the goal is to expedite this transition. To achieve this, meticulous efforts are being invested in refining the model range, ensuring that fully electric models dominate while older partially electric counterparts make way for the new era.

In 2022, Denmark took the courageous step of becoming the second market worldwide to eliminate pure petrol and diesel cars from its model range. According to Sarka Heyna Fuchsova, the CEO of Volvo Car Denmark, this decision, though challenging at the time, has proven to be the right one. Fuchsova asserts, "It is clear that the Danes want fully electric cars. Therefore, we are now increasing the possibilities for our model program to reach our internal sub-goal of 90 percent of Volvo models sold in Denmark in 2024 being fully electric."

This shift bids farewell to the V60 and Volvo V90 models, making space for the ever-popular XC60 and the larger seven-passenger XC90, both remaining as the sole plug-in hybrid models.

Name Change and New Starting Price

Accompanying these changes is a natural evolution in terminology for the fully electric Volvo XC40 and Volvo C40 Recharge, known as the EX40 and EC40, aligning and simplifying the model program names. A new entry-level variant, the Volvo EX40 and EC40 Standard Range with 238 hp and core equipment has been introduced, starting at a competitive price of $58,000. Safety remains paramount, with adaptive cruise control and pilot assistance included in the standard package.

The Standard Range battery pack boasts 70 kWh, offering a WLTP range of up to 477 km for the EX40 and 486 km for the EC40 due to improved aerodynamics. For enthusiasts, there's an option to upgrade to the Extended Range Plus, providing a longer range, increased horsepower, and additional features for $5,500. The Plus and Ultra equipment variants remain unchanged.

EX40 and EC40 Black Edition

Following the success of the larger Volvo XC60, the Black Edition now extends its allure to the EX40 and EC40. Available in Extended Range and Twin Motor variants, prices start at $67,000. The Black Edition commands attention on the streets with Onyx black paint, glossy black Volvo logos and emblems, and upgraded 20” black rims for a sleek and uniform appearance.

In 2024, a noteworthy addition awaits drivers of the Volvo EX40 and Volvo EC40 twin motors or those with an XC40 or Volvo C40 Recharge twin motor from model year 2024 (MY24). They will have the opportunity to enhance their experience with a Performance upgrade, boosting power by 25 hp to a total of 442 hp. This upgrade, delivered through new software, can be conveniently downloaded via the Volvo Car App.
