Communications involving PHI must be conducted securely, according to HHS guidance and any necessary risk analysis required by the HIPAA Security Rule. This applies to both professional communications within the organization and communications with patients.
The session will examine HIPAA regulations regarding individuals' rights to communicate in the manner they prefer and how organizations can meet those needs while preserving their rights under the rules. The 2016 guidance on individual access to information and the proposed changes to the access rules will also be discussed.
