The Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling electric vehicle ever. The electric sedan was initially produced only in Fremont, California. Still, in December 2019, it began to be constructed in Giga Shanghai, China, to fulfill the rising demand of the world's largest electric vehicle market.

The success of the local version, which is far less expensive than imported devices, was instantaneous. Thus, the Tesla Model 3 even led the sales of electric cars in the Asian country, having been surpassed by the brilliant looks of the Wuling HongGuang Mini EV, a tiny urban electric that, thanks to its price of just 3,500 euros, has contributed to the change that is sweeping among Chinese consumers.

Earlier this year, Tesla commenced production of the Tesla Model Y SUV at Giga Shanghai. Although the rush of orders utterly swamped the business, the Tesla Model 3's great popularity did not immediately influence its younger sibling since the Model 3 has remained China's second best-selling electric car until now.

Last September, the Tesla Model Y outsold the Tesla Model 3 in China. According to the China Passenger Car Association, a total of 19,120 Tesla Model 3s and 33,033 Tesla Model Ys were delivered across the country. The positive response to the new model would have helped the firm break its quarterly sales record in China, where it delivered a total of 56,006 vehicles from July to September.

This change did not come as a surprise. While the Tesla Model 3 is more inexpensive than the Tesla Model Y, Elon Musk predicted that the Tesla Model Y would exceed the combined global sales of the Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model S, and Tesla Model X.

The Tesla Model Y only took seven months to outsell the Model 3 in California, the company's home market. Something similar may occur in Europe soon since the first model to leave the manufacturing lines of Giga Berlin will be the Tesla Model Y, which will begin to be produced at the German plant at the end of the year. @via teslarati.
